This relaxed and friendly open mic style poetry event takes place on the first Tuesday evening of the month. Always a great variety of poets to listen to and of course you are welcome to read some of your own, or favourite poetry – to be added to the list let Seamus or Liz know when you arrive (or during our break if you fancy joining in on the 2nd half. The venue has a range of hot and cold drinks, including wine and their always excellent home made cakes. This is a free event but please support Coffee on the Corner by purchasing your refreshments.
Thursday 4th June, 10am -12noon, Riverside Writers – Rochdale Central Library
Riverside Writers this week will feature a poetry workshop led by Seamus Kelly. Using the work of several well-known poets for inspiration members will be encouraged to create some new poetry of their own and, should they wish to, share it with the group. The session will focus on poetry that is accessible to everyone and there will be plenty of prompts and ideas to get you started. Riverside Writers welcomes anyone aged 18+ whether they want to try writing for the first time or seasoned writers. There is no need to book and the session is free of charge, but voluntary donations of £2 towards our running costs would be appreciated. Just come along with something to write with and your thoughts.
Thursday 4th June, 2pm-4pm, Number One Writing Group – Rochdale Central Library
The Number One Writing groups meets on the first Thursday of each month. This month’s facilitator will be Seamus Kelly who will be leading a workshop about Nature Poetry. Taking inspiration from well known poets including Basho, Seamus Heaney, Simon Armitage and Nick Cowen, plus hints and tips you will be able to create new work based on our natural world. The focus will be poetry but you are welcome to create in whichever genre you prefer. There is no need to book for the session which will be held in Room G11 in the library. Number One Writers welcome voluntary donations of £2 towards the running costs for the group.
ADVANCE NOTICE – Roch Tales, 9th July, 6.30pm-9.00pm, Ukrainian Club Rochdale
Following a series of workshops held at libraries around Rochdale, the RochTales short story project, led by David Gaffney, culminates in an event at The Ukrainian Centre in Rochdale. The event will include reading of specially commissioned short stories about Rochdale from Abi Hynes, Benjamin Judge, David Gafney, Nicholas Royle, Reshma Ruia and Rosie Garland. There will also be a new sound installation from Rochdale Artist Maryanne Royle and an open mic opportunity for local writers to share their own work in three minute slots.
