The picture below was taken at the opening of our really super day in Rochdale Town Hall for our Folk Like Us event. We are grateful to the Mayor of Rochdale for opening our event and spending time watching, listening and chatting to audiences and performers. Over 300 people came to the Town Hall and experienced poetic tours of the amazing building from Riverside Writers, music from the Littleborough U3A Choir, the Littleborough Training Brass Band, an organ recital from Barrie Brailsford and stories, poems and song with dialect from the Edwin Waugh Society. New poetry was created in workshops for children and adults delivered by Ray Stearn and Seamus Kelly.

What’s in a Picture is also the title of this week’s creative writing workshop delivered by Eileen Earnshaw. There will be inspiration and ideas and chance to start some new writing in our weekly session from 10am to 12noon at Rochdale Central Library, Number One Riverside. Everyone aged 18+ is welcome to join us for our free sessions.

On Tuesday evening the monthly open mic Poetry Café takes place from 6pm to 8pm hosted at the lovely Coffee on the Corner café in Littleborough. This has grown to be a friendly and enjoyable evening of poetry with an occasional song and the variety and quality of poetry is always terrific. The event is free but we hope that those attending will buy a brew and perhaps some of the excellent home made cakes to support the owners who provide the venue for us.
There is no need to book and you are welcome to come along to share your poetry or to listen as part of the audience.
